There are of course many products on the market to treat acne, and the fact that they all claim to be the best available can make the search for a true acne cure that much more difficult. For many years, however, spiro and acne treatments have gone together quite well, and what started out as a high blood pressure medication has quickly been shown to have a number of other important health benefits as well.
In fact, spiro, or spironolactone, has proven to be effective at treating not only acne but also issues with the hair as well. In fact, spiro has been shown to be effective at both treating diffuse hair loss and at preventing the incrased growth of unwanted hair known as hirsutism.
Sprio and acne treatments go back a long way, but the exact mechanism by which sprio helps acne is still somewhat unclear. It is known that spiro acts as an anti androgen, meaning it helps to block male hormones, and that it also has a mild estrogenic effect. It is also known that the drug does not affect the blood pressure of those whose blood pressure is in the normal range, meaning that it is safe to use for acne treatments.
The effect of spiro and acne treatments seem to be mostly in the effects it has on the body. The fact that the drug blocks the effects of male hormones at the hair follicle and oil glands means that les oil is produced, and less oil means less potwential for acne outbreaks. When taking the drug for the tratmetn of acne, it is important to consult periodically with yoru doctor so that he or she can assess your progress and make any necessary dosage adjustments.
When using spiro to treat acne outbreaks, the improvement is usually seen within the first two to four months of treatment, and those taking the drug should be able to notice a marked decrease in the oiliness of the skin. For most acne treatment indications the dose of spiro will be between 25 and 150 mg per day, and since acne is often a long term chronic condition spiro can be taken for up to a year or two. When using long term sprio and acne treatments it is important to take periodic rest breaks during which usage of the drug is discontinued.
Even though spiro has proven to be a safe and effective method of treating acne outbreaks it is important that pregnant women avoid taking the drug, since it can produce serious birth defects in male fetuses. For the same reason women of child bearing age should be sure to use a very effective method of birth control. This is especially important, since the estrogenic effects of the drug can make women more fertile.
