Coping With Teenage Acne – The Common Sense Way

September 8th, 2008

The best way to manage Teenage Acne is through the application of the age old common sense. Changing one’s diet should be implemented in order to deal with acne effectively. Certain experts will claim that diet does not play a part in acne but; diet does play a major role in overall good health and wellbeing and hence is a glaring place to start. Removing fatty foods, processed carbohydrates, chocolate and sweets and replacing them with vegetables, fruits and lots of pure drinking water will go a long way to remove toxins through the bowel system rather than have them manifesting through the skin.

Keep the face clean; keep grubby hands away from the face and keep hair off the face. Acne spots are often open and very vulnerable to infection. Do whatever you can to practice good hygiene.

All sorts of teenage stresses including the stress of a bad relationship and examinations could make acne worse. Introducing some form of stress reduction technique into ones day activities may help to reduce the occurrence of acne. Boys are not always open to meditation but may be prepared to take up one of the meditative marshal arts such as Aikido.

People in authority like teachers and parents must be sympathetic and must not to trivialize the acne problem. The majority who have been through teenage acne problems should know that it is certainly feasible to live through it and end up unscarred, with a good clear skin. However, this fact will not be considered by the teenager. The teenage boy or girl is only aware of the present moment that he is suffering from spots hence sensitivity is required.

There will be a temptation on the part of the sufferer to use harsh skin preparations and scrubs on the acne in an attempt to improve the situation. This will often make the condition worse rather than better. Gentle acne skin care regime is preferable although boys may need some encouragement to use a mild facial skin cleanser on their face.

Medical help should only be sort only if after applying the common sense approach the acne skin fails to improve.

The temptation to pick the spots must be resisted at all cost. Most often it is the picking of the acne spots that introduces infection which in turn causes scarring.

Young girls will be tempted to cover the acne using makeup. This could often exacerbate the acne. If make-up for any reason absolutely must be worn then brands that that are known to be non-comedogenic should be used. Teenage boys with acne may notice worsening of their acne when they start shaving. Experimentation will be needed with wet and dry shaves to see which works best.
