Microdermabrasion Vs. Anti Aging Wrinkle Cream

January 28th, 2009

Researching anti aging skin care treatments can send a consumer’s head into a tailspin with the plethora of options available today. There must be an alternative to plowing through page after page of skin care websites easier way to perform this research, right? Yes, there is. It’s called the head-to-head challenge. This article will take two anti aging skin care treatments and reveal the positives and negatives of both, making the decision-making process a little less overwhelming. We will start with a description of each and then move into its benefits and drawbacks beginning with microdermabrasion.

Microdermabrasion is the younger, less invasive sibling of dermabrasion. Dermabrasion is the painful process of removing the outer surface layer of skin leaving the newly exposed layer to heal. Thanks to scientific advances in the skin care industry, such a procedure can be performed with little to no pain or downtime due to scarring. That’s exactly what microdermabrasion can do for you. It’s a gentle, nonablative treatment that removes the outer layer of skin with a sandblasting technique using aluminum oxide or sodium bicarbonate crystals.

By employing a controlled pealing and rapid healing process, microdermabrasion causes skin surface cells to stimulate collagen production in the body. This anti aging treatment softens fine lines, improves dull and uneven skin tones, and minimizes clogged pores and blackheads. Microdermabrasion’s strong point is it’s ability to erase common skin irregularities on the upper lip and crow’s feet area.

Unfortunately, that’s about where the advantages of microdermabrasion end. It’s effectiveness against the signs of aging are somewhat limited. Deep wrinkles, prominent smile lines, or other facial expression induced creases are usually unaffected by the microdermabrasion process. Therefore, microdermabrasion is often used in combination with another anti aging treatment.

On the other hand, an anti aging wrinkle cream might just be what the doctor ordered. Truthfully, the majority of anti aging creams and serums on the market do not work. With that said, our focus will be on products possessing at least one of the following premium anti aging ingredients.

Silicone Dioxide-microscopic 3-dimensional crystals that refract light causing fine lines and wrinkles to disappear

D3PA (Anti-Inflammatory & Anti-Oxidant)-stimulates the body’s own D3PA which fights off collagen-attacking free radicals.

Idebenone (Super Anti-Oxidant)-restores cell vitality and shields the skin from environmental damage

Ascorbyl Palmitate (the right kind of vitamin C)-stabilizes vitamin C’s effective antioxidant abilities

Deanol (Skin Toner)-firms the skin and tightens muscles beneath the skin’s surface

Acetyl Hexapeptide-3 (Ultimate Botox Alternative)-produces the same results as botox minus the needle injections, toxins, and cost

Adding an anti aging wrinkle cream to a daily skin care regiment is easily accomplished. An anti aging wrinkle cream assists in reversing the signs of aging from the inside out. Regular use of an anti aging wrinkle cream can delay and even completely eliminate the need for invasive botox injections and cosmetic surgery procedures.

Anti aging wrinkle creams do not come cheap. Due to the scientifically formulated ingredients and limited quantities, these creams can cost as much as $400. Secondly, miraculous results from using an anti aging wrinkle will not be immediate. It oftentimes can take up to 30 days to really see a difference. Reversing years of skin damage overnight is an expectation that will not be met. As a consumer, it would be smart to take advantage of any free trial offers in order to give a wrinkle cream a test run.

Ultimately, microdermabrasion wasn’t much of a match for the anti aging wrinkle cream. It’s limited, overall effectiveness against treating common skin concerns caused it’s defeat in the head-to-head challenge. Microdermabrasion, in tandem, with an anti aging wrinkle cream, such as LifeCell would certainly cover most if not all common skin concerns. As a footnote, LifeCell was found to be the only anti aging wrinkle cream possessing all 6 aforementioned premium ingredients.
