Dealing with the problem of hormonal acne

March 3rd, 2009

Hormonal acne is one of those problems that just about all of us will have to face. Rare is the teenager or young adult who completely escapes the ravages of acne. In most cases of course acne is merely an embarrassing problem to be gotten through and grown out of, but in some cases acne can lead to serious complications like scarring and even bacterial infections.

As the name suggests, hormonal acne is brought about by the many hormone changes that take place around the onset of puberty. This time in the life of a young person is one of rapidly shifting hormones, and these changes in hormone levels stimulate the sebaceous glands in the skin to secrete more oil than normal.

This excess production of oil by the sebaceous glands in turn leads to a buildup of oil, bacteria and dead skin cells which can clog the pores of the skin. When these pores are clogged in this way the all too familiar blackheads, whiteheads and pimples that typify an outbreak of acne can occur. It is these acne outbreaks that commercial and natural acne cures alike seek to correct, but it is importunate to choose your treatment carefully, and to understand the various factors that can bring on an acne outbreak or make an existing outbreak worse.

Excess oil in the skin can help to make an acne problem worse, as can dirt and makeup left on the skin. One of the most important things acne sufferers can do, therefore, is to follow a strict skin care regimen, and to make sure that all old makeup and dirt are removed from the skin and face on a daily basis. A twice daily cleansing of the face and neck can do a great deal to prevent problems with acne, as can a healthy diet and getting plenty of sleep.

If additional help is needed with a hormonal acne problem it is important to choose a good product to medicate the problem and get rid of the acne once and for all. There are many excellent acne treatment and prevention products on the market and it is important to shop around carefully to make sure you are getting the best deal for your limited acne treatment budget.
