Your skin is the largest organ in your body and taking care of it will reward you with soft subtle skin. Taking care of your skin doesn’t have to cost big bucks and it doesn’t require you to buy products. You can if you want but you can also make your own skin care products and get great skin!
Doesn’t your face just drive you crazy when part of it is dry and flaking while the other part is shiny and oily. You use soap and the dry areas get worse, you use lotion and the oily areas protest by breaking out. So how are you suppose to handle this?
Well first off your trouble might actually lye in your skin care products. While it may appear that they are working well on your oily area they may actually be contributing to the problem because the chemicals strip too much oil out of the skin causing a rebound effect.
It’s pretty hard to find a product on the market that will take care of mixed skin conditions and that doesn’t contain a host of chemicals. In fact some products are so bad you can’t even pronounce the words let alone know what they mean.
Here’s a line to live by. If a product contains a word that’s too big for you to pronounce don’t use the product because this means it’s a chemical and using anything chemical on your skin is not only toxic it will lead to worsening skin conditions not better.
So that leaves you with two options. You can buy skin care products that are all natural and there are several on the market to choose from. In fact there are some terrific sites online. Be sure to check them out. Or you can make your own products.
Yes I know you’ve got visions of complex laboratories in your kitchen whipping up your next batch of skin care products. Really nothing could be simpler. Nothing complex here and almost all of the ingredients you need are probably already in your cupboard.
The only thing you need to be aware of when making your own products is allergies. If you are allergic to a specific fruit or ingredient that the recipe calls for simply substitute.
Home made skin care products are very inexpensive to make and you can experiment until you get the perfect blend for you. Think of it as a custom order!
Some recipes you can make in advance while others you’ll have to throw together just before you want to use them. Here are a few recipes for combination skin to get you started but there are plenty available online so do a search.
To make your own facial cleanser mix 3 tbsp of glycerin, ¼ cup water, and 2 tablespoons of cornstarch in a bowl. Mix until smooth. Place your double boiler on the stove, put water in the bottom and pour the mixture into the top bowl. Heat your mix until it becomes clear and starts to thicken. If it gets too thick just add a little more water. The finished texture should be thick but easily pour. Remove it from the heat, pour into a jar, let cool, and seal. Lasts for 5 to 7 days. Use this as your daily facial wash.
Green tea makes a wonderful skin toner and it’s so simple to make. Boil a cup of water then add a green tea bag. Let steep 3 to 4 minutes in the hot water, then remove the tea bag and let cool. Pour into a bottle and cap. Use like you would a regular toner. Apply to cotton ball and then to face. So refreshing and it’s great for combination skin. If you have acne issues add 2 drops of tea tree oil which is an excellent antiseptic. Never use large quantities of tea tree as it is very drying and very potent.
Now you need a facial scrub. Scrubs gently exfoliate and help remove surface blackheads and is excellent for combination skin. This is another very simple recipe. Simply mix 5 parts water to 5 part baking soda. That should be adequate but if you need more just mix 1 part to 1 part. Gently scrub your face then rinse off. You can use this every few days.
If your skin is oilier and you suffer from acne this is one of the best facial scrubs around. Use 3 parts sea salt to 3 parts lemon juice. Mix into a paste then gently scrub your face. It gently exfoliates and leaves your skin feeling soft and refreshed. It is not drying. Use once a week.
There are many products in your kitchen that you can use to make facial products. Lemon is an excellent astringent. Cucumber is refreshing and energizing. Almond is an excellent exfoliator. If you want more recipes you can find great recipes online. And remember you can adjust any recipe until you find the perfect blend for your skin type.
If you want great skin then you need to make your own skin care products or buy only natural skin care products!
